So on Monday it was the SPCA’s National Cupcake Day; where you can make cupcakes, sell them to your friends/family/colleagues etc. to raise money for your nominated SPCA.
We got our little guy Flynn, who we had to put down on Saturday; from the Hamilton SPCA and so when I saw this opportunity I thought it was a nice and easy way to raise some money for them. I had never been to the SPCA before getting Flynn but when we went there I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to help in some way.
I am a fan of their page on Facebook and constantly see images uploaded of lost cats and other animals that just get dropped off at their door; the amount of these animals per week amazes me!! I hope that if our other wee boy; Fluffy, ever gets lost somehow that he is taken there; because the work they do just amazes me!
So on Sunday I spent literally most of my day (bar a few hours of watching a movie) baking cupcakes to take to work on Monday. These were made in all sorts of flavours; Vanilla, Choc-Orange, Apple and Walnut, Strawberry Milkshake and Chocolate with Banana Icing (all from the Humming Bird Bakeries Cookbooks which I LOVE!!).
I’m not entirely sure how many I ended up making – somewhere near the 60 mark I think. It was quite a few batches anyway and my kitchen was an absolute shambles; but I got there; and enjoyed baking them too!
To work on Monday with my two bags full (actually was!) of cupcakes galore. By Monday afternoon there was $102 raised and only a few cupcakes left to sell. Tuesday came and we sold nearly all of them to make a whopping total of $120!
I couldn’t believe it; such a great effort by my work mates and it really feels nice to be giving something back. Even though it turned out rather ironic that the reason I was doing this in the first place (Flynn) was now no longer with us; it still is such a nice feeling to know you have helped in even the smallest way.
Do you do something to give back? Some sort of pay-it-forward even in the smallest of ways? I would love to hear your stories. xx
