Nearly one year ago on the 26th November 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting Shanice and her partner Steffen for the first of many Pooch Portrait Photo Sessions with them.
Shanice had messaged me about her 5 beautiful Border Collies; and was wanting to start off with just one; Axle.
Axle is a stunning Blue Merle of five and a half years; who about a year ago fathered his first litter of pups.
Being a photographer in the Waikato means that when I go away even for ‘time off’; I can’t help but look around places for where pooch images could be taken; I literally feel like I’m having withdrawals if I can’t get at least one session in while I’m ‘away’.
So even though Shanice, Steffen and their collies are in Taranaki; I was really keen to get in some photos down there!
Axle’s session was done at a park in New Plymouth called East End Reserve. It is right by the beach with huge open grass areas, some little hills and a few benches.
Sometimes a session in a different town can be a bit tricky when it comes to the weather; meaning if it’s no good on the day; when rescheduling is the only option; but that just means organising another time to come down.
Thankfully on the 26th Nov; weather is a little more predictable than right now; and it turned out to be a great overcast day!
Shanice and Steffen had also bought along one of Axle’s pups that they have kept for themselves; Jager. He wasn’t to be part of the shoot; he was just along for the ride. But at the end of the session I couldn’t help but get a couple of father and son.
